I’ve had a lot of emails lately asking how I’m feeling and how my pregnancy is progressing. So before I give you all my twin pregnancy update I wanted to take a second to thank all of you who have reached out privately to check in on me. The blogging community I have found myself a part of is filled with a wonderful group of people.
Twin Pregnancy Update
If you are just interested in learning the gender of the babies I have it posted at the bottom, simply scroll down to see who will be joining our family later this summer.
How Far Along? 22 weeks and 3 days as of today. Measuring at 31 weeks if I was carrying a single infant. This is right on track for a twin pregnancy.
Maternity Clothes? I’ve had to dig out more and more of my maternity clothes. I’ve been trying on two or three items every morning to find something that fits. I have a feeling I’m going to outgrow the maternity clothing I had used when expecting the boys, so I’m starting to look for some things to get me through the summer months.
Weight Gain? Yes, finally! I’ve gained 4 pounds as of last Monday. This however is not unusual for my pregnancies. I typically don’t gain any weight until the end of my second trimester.
Morning Sickness? It’s gone for the most part. Now and then I have a little trouble in the morning but mostly I’m doing great!
Food Cravings? I’m craving fruits and veggies like crazy. My number one go to is Green Grapes I can’t get enough of them. I also love broccoli, I can’t seem to get enough of that veggie.
Food Aversions? Raw meat, the smell of meat cooking, and lunch meat give me trouble still.
What I Miss? The thing I miss the most is holding KC on my lap. The boys and I love to cuddle but it’s just not comfortable to hold him in the reclining chair anymore. He has taken the news like a trooper and we have figured out new ways to cuddle but we just can’t do it in our favorite spot anymore. Also being comfortable at night. During the day I’m okay but as it gets on toward evening and my body just wants to give up for the night around 7:00 pm.
What I’m Looking Forward To: Right now I’m looking forward to designing the babies nursery (on a budget of course) since the twins are going to share a room I want to make sure that it is gender neutral just in case we have both a boy and a girl.
Milestones: The twins are about 11 inches long this week, and weigh about 1 pound each.
Movement: I have been able to feel the twins move since week 13. Their kicks and rolls are getting stronger, and I’m feeling them every day now. The babies are finding their favorite spots which I love. Baby B likes to be up high and KC has been able to feel the little bump it makes when it’s tucked up against the wall of my uterus. Baby A likes to hang out a little lower and I often feel it on the bottom.
Worries: Given my history of pre-term labor and delivering my boys early I am worried that I may wind up on bed rest and that the twins will come early as well. With that being said it isn’t something I dwell on and I know it is in God’s hands not mine. I know how to handle the situation should it arise.
My doctor as referred me to a Neonatologist, an OBGYN who specializes in high risk pregnancies like mine, and we will go see him on May 31st. The referral is more of a precautionary thing right now, but given the trouble I have had in the past my OBGYN wanted me to be connected with someone right away. Their office will be doing ultrasounds so we will get another chance to see the babies.
The Boys: The boys are doing great. KC talks to my belly almost on a daily basis. He loves that he is going to have two babies at his house and he tells everyone who will listen. I’m so happy that KC is this excited about being a big brother again. I know he has wanted it for a long time but seeing his joy makes my day.
AJ on the other hand is just now starting to understand that there are babies in Mommy’s tummy and we count them although he doesn’t always stop at two! My mom has asked me how I think AJ will do once they arrive and I honestly think he will be okay. KC will be so excited about it that I think that excitement will rub off on AJ.
Boy? Girl? Or Both??
Okay now for the news many of you have been waiting for. Heith and I had our anatomy ultrasound a few weeks ago. The twins were 18 weeks and 5 days at that point. The ultrasound tech was great to work with and she tried very hard to see the gender of the babies. From what they have shown us we are having BOTH! Baby A appears to be a little girl while Baby B is looking like a little boy we can’t wait until they join our family later this summer. I know it will be a huge change in our family but we will all adjust to the newest members of our family and a new family routine. Although prayers from our friends and family never hurt and are always welcome!
