What Is SavingStar?
SavingStar.com is a free grocery shopping app, but you can also use it directly through their website. Unlike ReceiptHog and Checkout51 where you only scan receipts, SavingStar connects right to your grocery and pharmacy loyalty cards. Until recently you were only able to use their program at stores that used to loyalty cards. However, just this week I received an email informing SavingStar users of a new feature that allows us to scan receipts from the stores that we were previously unable to receive credit at. The stores vary by region but just in my area alone they added Walmart, Meier, Target and other major retailers.
SavingStar, How Does It Work?
Simply start by entering your postal zip code to find a list of participating stores in your area. Then by connecting your loyalty cards you will have access to several digital e-coupons. Any e-coupon you select are automatically loaded on to your card. This happens instantly and you don’t have to wait to use them. I have literally been standing in the checkout line, product in hand when I selected a SavingStar e-coupon to use that very trip. There some unique features hat I think are great. Every Tuesday you are sent an email with a healthy offer. Typically it is an extra 20% off of produce item. For my family that is great as we go through a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. Then on Fridays a second email is sent, this is called “Friday Freebie”. The Friday Freebie product is one you will receive 100% free. These items can range from a candy bar, a box of pasta or even a travel size deodorant. The SavingStar cash back mall lets you earn for making online purchases through specific retailers like JCPenny and Maces among others. When shopping at a store using your loyalty card there is nothing further you need to do. However, after shopping at a store where a loyalty card is not used you will have to activate the app, select the store and then scan the receipt.
How Do I Get Paid?
It is important to know that even though SavingStar calls your discount an e-coupon it is not applied at the checkout. You will not see a reduction in price that on that item either. It will take between 2 and 30 days depending on the store and when they send the information to SavingStar. From my personal experience I can tell you that it has never taken more than a week to receive credit in my account. You can withdrawal your earnings with as little as $5.00 in your SavingsStar account. Once you reach the required $5.00 minimum you can request payment in one of several ways: check, direct deposit into your checking account a PayPal account and even in Amazon gift cards.
