It’s been awhile since I’ve written an app review. I have recently started using an app called Receipt Pal and found it so easy to use that I thought you deserved to know about this little treasure as well.
What Is Receipt Pal?
Receipt Pal is a free app for iPhone and Android phones that is similar to Receipt Hog in that you get paid for taking pictures of your receipts. If you are already using it or at least are familiar with how Receipt Hog works then you will be able to use Receipt Pal like a pro. If you’re not familiar with the Receipt Hog app don’t worry this app is so easy to use, you’ll be an expert almost immediately.
With this app you are rewarded for snapping photos of your qualifying receipts and filling out “cards” which then earns you 100 points. I will explain more about these cards in a minute.
Like Receipt Hog, Receipt Pal is anonymously collecting your receipt data, what you bought, price paid for the item, where and when. Then combines it with other Receipt Pal app users’ info to create market research that companies use to make their existing products better. Your data is always kept private and never shared with other parties.
How Does Receipt Pal Work?
Receipt Pal accepts a wide range of receipts. Which in my opinion is one area where this app outshines Receipt Hog.
Receipts from supermarkets, sporting goods stores, gas stations, online merchants (Amazon, Google Play, etc.), car dealerships, retail stores (JC Penny, Menards, etc.) of all types, and even restaurants.
Upon signing up for the Receipt Pal app you are given 5 cards to fill up with qualifying receipts. After the initial five cards every Monday you will be given 2 new cards to complete. In my opinion being limited to 8 receipts a week is a big drawback to this app but since it takes so little effort on my part I have decided to continue using it.
To fill a card simply scan and submit or email four receipts and once the entire card is filled you will be given 100 points for the completed card.
Note: This app does not have the option to take multiple photos of a long receipt. To take a photo of a long receipt simply take it from a further distance away. The company say they are able to zoom in and capture all the required information.
Weekly Bonus Sweepstakes. Every week you have a chance to win $250.00 and every qualifying receipt is a new entry into the drawing. You have the ability to enter as many receipts as you want for the sweepstakes. To participate you must register your email with the app.
Sign up bonus. When you register your email with the app you are given a one time 150 point bonus.
Referral Program. Unlike Receipt Hog there is no referral reward system for recommending this app to your friends and family.
In order for your receipt to be accepted and you to be credited for it there are a few more qualifiers.
- Receipts must be in U.S. currency only.
- The store name, zip code or phone number must be on the receipt.
- Date of purchase, and the total amount spent must be clearly visible on your receipt.
- Receipts that are 30 Days or newer are eligible to be submitted. Which is yet another benefit over Receipt Hog’s 14 day time limit.
To submit your receipts you simply scan them using the app or you can submit them through email by sending them to Receipts@Receiptpalapp.com.
How Much Can I Earn?
I think this app has a few great ways to pay you for your efforts including: plant-a-tree donation, CharityChoice gift card, Amazon gift cards, Reasturant.com gift cards and a Dinner and a Movie.
The Dinner and a Movie gift card is a $50 Resturants.com gift card and 2 Fandango movie tickets.
Unfortunately there is no PayPal option for those of you who prefer to get cash.
Just like Receipt Hog the longer you submit receipts and save your points the better the reward options are. As you save for the larger rewards you will also notice that there is a discount on the required points for doing so.
Once you submit for a reward you should receive in instantly. As I have not yet submitted for my first reward I can’t speak to this personally but every resource I have read say that it is.
