At the end of July I signed up to be a product reviewer (Agent) with BzzAgent, a word of mouth marketing company. Over the past couple of months I have enjoyed testing everything from frozen piazza to body wash, lotion and even bath loofah. As I write this post I am waiting for my latest buzzkit (more on that a little later) a Fisher-Price Thomas & Friends TrackMaster Avalanche Escape Set. I can’t tell you how excited I am for my boys to receive such a great item, and even more excited that I got it for FREE!
BzzAgent ~ The Company
BzzAgent was founded by David Balter in 2001 and is located in Boston, but it has Agents not only in the US but in Canada and the UK as well. As a social marketing company, it has conducted research and word-of-mouth campaigns for a wide variety of companies both big and small. Some of them include Procter & Gamble, Disney, Fisher-Price, Dove, Disney and many others.
How BzzAgent Works
BzzAgent is a fun way for you to provide companies with consumer market research in exchange for free full size products. As an Agent (aka reviewer) you are given products to try out, and formulate an opinion on before reviewing them and spreading the word on your like or dis-like of that product.
BzzAgent provides full-sized products to their Agents (reviewers) who are real customers and value their honest opinion on the products they were provided.
Registering to be an agent is very simple. All you have to do is provide them with your name, age, address (where they can send you your products) and a few other details so they can connect you with quality companies that would be a good fit for you. Then you will take a few quick surveys, most take under a minute to complete. These surveys help to match the best products for you to try. That way you’re not getting some random thing you’ll never use!
Once you have taken all of your preliminary surveys all there is to do is st back and wait for your first campaign offer. This is where a little patience is required. While I was lucky enough to get my first invitation within a couple of weeks and one over month since; I have heard of people haven’t to wait two or three months before getting their first invitation.
When a campaign comes along that is a good fit, you will be contacted via e-mail. It’s your choice to accept or decline the offer. If you decline the offer, that’s it, you just wait for the next one. There is no repercussions for not accepting an invitation to participate in any campaign.
Accepting A BzzAgent Campaign
Once you accept a campaign the fun begins! The start date of your campaign is listed in your member account area on the BzzAgent web site. Your bzzkit (aka package of goodies) will arrive on your doorstep about a week after the campaign start date. Once nice thing about the bzzkit is that it contains full size products to try. These products are intended for your use to that you can formulate an opinion on it.
The next step is to spread the word about your experience with the product. Some of the ways you can spread the word is through word of mouth, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube. you can even leave a review on the BzzAgent website, or write a post for your own blog. Included in your bzzkit are coupons for you to share with family and friends so that they can also try the product at a reduced cost.
No matter if your opinion is a positive or negative one, the important thing is to be honest!
The last step is to create a BzzReport on the products you have tried. They want to know (in some cases) what you shared with your family and friends and what their reactions were. Don’t forget to share the extra coupons with them so they can form their own opinions on the products.
